npadmin FAQ

What's the license?

GNU GPL.

Is npadmin in any of the Linux distributions?

Debian "frozen" has an old version.

Debian "unstable" has an old version.

Help! npadmin crashed my printer!

The following are known bugs in several printers. If any of these problems arise for you, please report them to the to the vendor's technical support people as bugs. In most cases, I (Ben) have reported these as problems but the vendors are unwilling to go back and fix their code because "No one uses these objects". Hopefully, as my program's usage becomes more pervasive more people will request that these bugs in their RFC 1759 implementations get fixed.

"--languages" crashes any HP 5M/N printers.

"--languages" and "--protocols" crash HP 5 series printers with formatters whose datecode is older than 19960829. We are currently testing a new version of firmware that hopefully will fix these two problems. The problem is that there is a bug in the way some older version of HP printers send information back to the JetDirect interface. If you do a multivariable request, it crashes the printer.

Help! I'm getting weird errors from my printer!

The following are known printer bugs:

"--pagecount" on Lexmark printers returns the warning "Warning: Counter returned when Integer expected for 1.3.6.1.2.1.43.10.2.1.4.". This is a problem with Lexmark's implementation of that SNMP object. It is a small problem but in this one case they are not following the RFC.

What if I find a bug not listed here?

Please post it to the bug tracking system.
